Abstract

In this study is are reporting the antimycobacterial activity of violacein, 3[1,2- Dihydro-5-(5-hydroxy-1 H-indole-3-y1)-2-oxo-3H -pyrrol-3-ylidene] 1,3-dihydro- 2Hindole-z-one, against the M. tuberculosis H37 Ra strain. The violacein showed antimycobacterial action in vitro with the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 64 ug/ml. and minima1 bactericida1 concentration (MBC) of 128 ug/ml., These values are comparable with those from literature for pyrazinamide.
