Abstract
The rate of occurrence of anti-reticulin antibodies in sera irom S. mansoni-experimentally infected albino mice was ínvestigated, in order to evaluate its arising and reactivity intensity, according to the infection period of time. Indirect immunofluorescence technique on criostat sections of urifí xed snap-frozen human kidney was employed. Forty-eight (96%) of 50 mice with S. mansoni infection exibited positive reactions in variable intensity; 31 (64.5%) sera showed faint staining while brighter staining was shown by 17 (35.5%). Among 10 non-infected mice group, there was virtually no staining. Among the infected mice g roup, a greater reactivity was observed in chronicalJy infected mice, supporting the hypothesis of a relationship between rnesenquimal alterations and
the presence of anti-reticulin antibodies.
