Abstract
The findings made during an epidemic due to Rocio virus (Flaoioiradae i are described. The new virus was fourid, in 1975, in the counties of Peruíbe, ltanhaém and Mongaguá, located in the Vale do Ribeira, state of São Paulo, Brazil. Characteristics of endemic areas, vírus isolation and identification methods, epidemiological aspects and some findings regarding the enzootic
and epizootic cycles of the virus are described.
