Abstract

A total of 120 samples of preserved meat were analysed for chlorinated pestícide residues by gaz chromatographic methods. The alpha, beta and gamma isomers of BHC were found in all samples. The delta isomer was found only in very small amounts in the majority of samples. The amounts of total BHC (on fat) varied from 0.02 to 1.69 ppm with an average of 0.39 ppm. This represents an appreciable degree of contamination. In general it was found that "corned beef" which contains deposit fat shows higher values than the "roast beef" which contains interstitial fat.
