Abstract
Sera from 100 patients of typhoid fever had been tested by means of the surface flXation and of the Widal test using sornatic and flagelar antigens, in comparison with the results of hemocultures. There was strict accordance between the results obtained through the hemoculture and the surface fixation reaction, while, for the same sera, the Widal test showed negative results in 18 cases where the somatic antigen was used and in 24 cases where the flagelar antigen was used. In 200 sera of patients with clinical and laboratorial diagnosis of infectious diseases other than typhoid fever, the surface fixation reaction showed always negative results; the Widal test using somatic 'antigen was positive in 52% of the cases and when the flagelar antigen was used the results were positive in 14,5% of the cases. The adoption of the surface fixation reaction is suggested for the laboratorial diagnosis of the typhoid fever due to its greater sensibility and specificity.
