Abstract
A thín-Iayer chromatography method for identification and separation of sorbítol from its contaminants (mannitol, maltose, glucose, xylose, fructose, sucrose) is described. The solvent used ís a mixture of water, propanol and ethyl acetate and the spray reagent is a solution of potassium permanganate. Method detects up to 0.5 ug/ III of sorbitol and clearly separates up to 5% of mannitol from sorbitol.
