Abstract

In the OMS technical communications "The fight against the cerebrospinal meningitis", 1976, it is recommended to continue the search for meningococcal sensitivity to sulfadrugs through the plate dilution technique using Mueller-Hinton agar and the sulfadiazine at concentrations of 0.1, 1.0, 5.0, and 10.0 mg%. In the present study, the technique used by H.A. Feldman (1967) was used with the same concentrations suggested by the OMS. 200 strains of Neisseria meningitidis (100 belonging to serogroup A and 100 to serogroup C) were tested including their sensitivity to sulfadiazine in discs, using Difco discs with 0.3 mg% and the Bauer, Kirby et alii's method. There was 81% of agreement between the two methods, when the concentration of 1.0 mg% was employed.
