Abstract

The few studies that have already been published about the determination of secretor phenotypes of the salivary ABH antigens of leprosy patients, have shown there isn't a significant correlation between these substances and susceptibility to the disease. In the present study 74 patients were evaluated, being 27 lepromatous, 23 tuberculoid and 24 borderline, about the presence of ABH antigens on the erythrocytes and in the saliva, by technics of agglutination reaction in tube and inhibition of agglutination. The frequence of ABO blood groups and secretor/non-secretor  henotype in these patients and in the control group were: 0= 40,5%(49%); A= 41,9%(36,5%); B= 10,8%(10,9%); AB= 6,8%(3,6%); secretor= 68,9%(82,5%) and non-secretor= 31,1%(17,5%). By the analysis of the results in leprosy patients, significant difference was not observed when comparing these distribuition of ABH antigens, on the erythrocytes and in the saliva, with controle group.
