Abstract

The author describes the methodology based on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the specific detection of  ycobacterium leprae DNA, by reviewing the approaches concerning the choice of oligonucleotide primers and the criteria of specificity and sensitivity required for a useful tool in clinical and experimental studies.
