Abstract
The rate of lymphocyte transformation brought about by phytohemagglutinin as well as the serum globulins levels were investigated among healthy Brazilian caucasoid soldiers exhibiting either a strongly positive or a completely negative late lepromin reaction (Mitsuda reaction). None of them were contacts of leprosy patients. It is concluded that among healthy individuals non contacts of leprosy patients neither the lymphocyte transformation stimulated by phytohemagglutinin, nor the serum globulins levels depend upon the Mitsuda reaction. The significant negative correlation between the level of non gama globulins and the rate phytohemagglutinin induced lymphocyte transformation, which is found among lepromatous patients, could not be observed among the healthy individuals who were examined.
