Abstract
Out of 68 patients amputated on their lower limbs (47 hanseniasis patients) since 1972, 32 were re-examined in January 1977. The results were considered good. Amputation is often rejected by patients, who prefer useless and completely deformed lower limbs ("total dependency"). However, it is a valuable resource to 'improve walking, general conditions and socio-economic rehabilitation.
