Abstract
The authors make a survey of hanseniase cases (139 patients) in the University Hospital of the City of Rio de Janeiro during the period from January 1975 to March 1978. The data presented are discussed by the authors, who specially consider the epidendologic aspects of the metropolitan area. They emphasize the considerable
increase of hanseniasis Incidence in that hospital and the importance of the latter as a screening center for the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro, recommending better material and technical preparation to fight the endemics.
