Hansenologia Internationalis: Leprosy and Other Infectious Diseases is an official, multidisciplinary, open-access scientific journal of the Lauro de Souza Lima Institute, which is part of the Health Services Coordination of the São Paulo State Health Department.
It is registered with the ISSN International Centre under the title Hansenologia Internationalis, ISSN-e: 1982-5161.
The abbreviated title is Hansen. Int., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references, and bibliographic captions.
The journal is registered with Crossref and assigns a unique persistent identifier, a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), to all published articles under the prefix DOI: 10.47878.
The journal's primary mission is to publish and disseminate scientific knowledge in leprosy. In particular, it aims to advance scientific research, improve healthcare practices, and strengthen policies to control and eliminate the disease.
Hansenology interacts with various health sciences, including dermatology, infectious diseases, and public health. Its scope of interest, therefore, focuses on studies employing epidemiological approaches and control protocols, as well as the investigation of dermatoneurological clinical manifestations, the disease's pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutic protocols, and laboratory tests that aid diagnosis and assess treatment failure. These tests employ cellular and molecular tools that encompass genetics, immunology, microbiology, and pathology. The journal also publishes manuscripts on topics such as disability prevention, rehabilitation, history, human rights, education, and health communication in leprosy.
Target Audience
Professionals and students in health sciences and related fields, including dermatologists, neurologists, physiatrists, infectious disease specialists, hansenologists, family health physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, biologists, biomedical scientists, pharmacists, public health professionals, epidemiologists, historians, and sociologists.
Publication Frequency
The journal was printed and distributed free of charge until 2008. In 2009, following trends in the field of scientific dissemination, Hansenologia Internationalis transitioned to being available exclusively online, on a biannual basis.
Since 2021, it has adopted a continuous publication model, in which articles are made available immediately after being reviewed, approved, and formatted, eliminating the need to wait for the complete assembly of issues or serialized editions. This model promotes speed in the communication and dissemination of research, offering numerous advantages to all users of scientific information.
The publication of a given issue covers the period from January to December of the current year. Manuscripts that, after all procedures, are approved for formatting by November 30 will be published in the same year. Texts approved later will be published in the following year.
Languages
HI publishes original articles in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. If written originally in English or Spanish, the article must include the Portuguese version. The title, abstract, and keywords of the manuscripts are required in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
