Abstract

Ofloxacin presents an ample spectrum of antimicrobial actión, including combating Mycobacterium leprae, and is currently employed as a substituta when the use of rifampicin is impossible. The objective of the present work was to study alterations in the nuclei of testicular cells in pubescent rats submitted to oral application of ofloxacin, and respective control groups. The method utilized was morphometry by the cariometric technique. The principie structures observed in histological preparations of the testicles were Leydig cells, spermatogonias, and Sertoli cells. 09 Wistar rats were utilized, five treated and four contrais, who received 12 mg of ofloxacin per Kg of body weight, from the ST* to 48th day after birth. On the 49th day
the rats were killed. The cariometric study of the Leydig cells, spermatogonias and Sertoli cells revealed that there were no significant changes in the forms of their nuclei (p > 0.05), permitting the conclusion that, at the doses used, the testicular cells suffered no alterations.
