Abstract

Gas liquid chromatography with electron capture detector was applied for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of fluid milk consumed in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
The pesticides were extracted according to the Mili's procedure. Peak identifications were accomplished by comparison with the retention time of the standards and by the addition of the supposed pesticide to the samples. BHC isomers were identified in all samples. The total BHC content in the samples varied from 0.007 to 0.055 ppm and the different isomers: alpha-BHC from 0.001 to 0.046 ppm; beta plus gama-BHC from 0.001 to 0.028 ppm; delta-BHC
from 0.000 to 0.005 ppm. Four samples of cheese type "Parmegiani" were also analysed with the following
results: alpha-BHC from 0.115 to 1.300 ppm; beta plus gama-BHC from 0.145 to 1.350 ppm: delta-BHC from traces to 0.650 ppm, in the fat.
